Crazy for Bear Hats!

This winter I did a lot of crocheting. Made two throws for our home and also many requests to make hats. Out of all the hats made this season, one was my favorite. Probably because the little ladyfinger wearing it will melt your heart. I will post the pattern at the end.

She is such a cutie. Like a doll right?

Ok so let’s talk pattern. If you want to recreate this hat:

I purchased a thick chunky yarn for the hat: Bernat Roving Yarn (Rice Paper)

For the flower I used: Red Heart Soft (Rose Blush)

Make hat for 0-3 months: I used a size H hook or you can use a smaller one since the yarn is so chunky.

  • Round 1: 8 Hdc in a magic circle; join. (8)
  • Round 2: Ch 2, hdc in same st, 2 hdc in next st and in each st around; join with a sl st in top of ch 2. (16)
  • Round 3: Ch 2, hdc in same st, hdc in next st, ✽ 2 hdc in next st, hdc in next st ✽ repeat around; join with a sl st in top of ch 2. (24)
  • Round 4: Ch 2, hdc in same st, hdc in next 2 sts, ✽ 2 hdc in next st, hdc in next 2 sts ✽ repeat around; join with a sl st in top of ch 2. (32)
  • Round 5: Ch 2, hdc in same st, hdc in next 3 sts, ✽ 2 hdc in next st, hdc in next 3 sts ✽ repeat around; join with a sl st in top of ch 2. (40)
  • Round 6: Ch 2, hdc in same st, hdc in next 19 sts, 2 hdc in next st, hdc in next 19 sts; join with a sl st in top of ch 2. (42)
  • Round 7-10: Ch 2, hdc in each st around; join with a sl st in top of ch 2. (42)
  • Round 12: Ch 2,  fpdc then bpdc around and join with sl st. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Crochet Flower:

I found the pattern for the flower on youtube. Here is the link:

Make 2 ears:

  • Round 1: 6 Sc in a magic circle; do not join, use a stitch marker at the end of rounds if you need to. (6)
  • Round 2: 2 Sc in ea st around; do not join. (12)
  • Round 3: * 2 Sc in next st, sc in next 5 sts * repeat around; do not join. (14)
  • Round 4: Sc in each st around; do not join. (14)
  • Round 5: * Sc2tog, sc in next st, sc2tog, sc in next 2 sts * repeat around. (10) Sl st in next st and fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing the ear to the hat.

Sew ears and flower to preferred area on hat and you are done!

I also made some other hats this season. One of them was a Totoro hat. It was also very cute, especially if you are a Totoro fan. Take a look below.

Couldn’t resist trying on some of my creations ;). If you would like to recreate the Totoro hat. Please check out this site where I found it:
